The Project of Gulliver and Valentine
Gulliver (left) and Valentine (right) are two orphans living with their Aunt close to Bukora. They lost their father in 1991 and mother in 1995. Despite being 16, Gulliver has yet to start secondary school. Their Aunt has struggled to pay fees for Valentine (18)to complete his GCSE year (Senior 4). The family approached Emmy to ask to join the project, which we agreed.
| Date | Update |
| 4 Aug 2009 | The beans have now been harvested and sold. The rains have been poor this season, so although we recouped the costs, little profit was made. But we have all the sticks for planting beans again! We harvested about 5 sacks of beans in their jackets. |
| 16 May 2009 | The Beans are growing very well and Gulliver has worked so hard, helped by Emmy. Sticks are now in and the field weeded - they will produce many beans! Gulliver has also been helping with many other fields in the project. |
| 14 April 2009 | Their large field has now been planted with climbing beans and they have started growing. Gulliver has collected all the required sticks (very many!) and will begin putting sticks in the ground for the beans next week. Valentine continues at school and is doing well. |
| 20 March 2009 | The large field has now been dug primary and secondary ready for planting. Gulliver has been working hard cutting many many sticks to put next to the beans for them to climb up. Will plant next week. |
| 7 March 2009 | After visiting their land today, primary cultivation will begin this week. We plan to plant climbing beans on the land in the next week or so. This should provide enough income to pay school fees for both the boys. |
Gulliver has also been helping with many other fields in the project.
