The Project of Emmy and Jerome

Jerom, Emmy and Jimmy - Emmy's brother. Emmy has lost both parents and Jerome his father. They live near each other in Bukora, about 10 miles from Kabale overlooking lake Bunyonyi. They have been friends for many years. Jimmy has now just returned to school to finish his primary years at age 14. Emmy is 21 and Jerome 22. This was our first project and Emmy is starting to take on management for the other projects. Emmy has just finished his A levels. Jerome and Emmy also both have a sister each.

DateUpdate
Nov 2009All the fields for Emmy and Jerom are growing well. We have tomatoes, cabbages, potatoes, carrots and wheat! Emmy has managed to balance his first term at university with the demands of the project, but it has been very hard work for him. Jerom is coming to the end of his certficate course. Queen and Nancy have really enjoyed their first term at college studying tailoring. The Large tank that we are planning to build, will be built at Emmy's house.
Oct 2009We have now planted one field with 3 sacks of potatoes - just in time for the rain falling heavily now! Emmy has planted the land at his home with tomatoes and cabbages. A second large field is also being planted with cabbages - the seedlings are being transplanted this week.
Sept 2009The water tank has been finished and we look forward to harvesting the rain to assist the whole project!. We now plant 4 fields to support Emmy, Jerome and their sisters' education. Planting of cabbages, wheat, tomatoes and carrots has begun. Another field will also be planted with potatoes in October.
August 2009The sisters of Emmy (Queen) and of Jerome (Nancy) have now been enrolled in a vocational school to study sewing. They begin on 9th September.
August 2009All fields have been harvested now. Unfortunately, like all other small scale farmers in Uganda, the yields were very poor due to no rainful in June ,July and August. People are really suffering. This has led us to build a 5000L water tank for the project. The next 8 months of harvests should all be good as the rains have now started again.
16 May 2009Emmy and Jerome have now planted 5 fields altogether: Wheat, Potatoes, Carrots and Cabbages. The rain has been good and the harvest should come July. Emmy has now got a place at University starting end of August, but will also continue managing the project.
14 April 2009Many of the harvested potatoes have now been used across the project: At Ivan's, Bright's and at Emmy's home field. Jerome's field has been planted with wheat and is growing well - it will harvest much. We have also prepared and planted with potatotes, a second field that Jerome had. Jerome has now started college, funded through the project. He is studying a 2 year course in Entrepreneurship at a college in town. Emmy has been busy organising all the different fields. He also has been lent a second field - it is about to be planted with potatoes as well.
20 March 2009The first potatoes have been sold! The rest await sprouts, which are coming. Jerome has bought wheat for planting next in the field, which will start next week. Emmy has been clearing more of his land at his house ready for planting. They have both also found a new field each to bring into the project. Lots for Emmy to manage. This season there will be potatoes, cabbages, wheat and carrots growing in the various fields. Jerome is preparing to start college in 2 weeks - a 3 year course in entrepreneurship, funded through the project.
7 March 2009

Both fields have now been harvested and 25 sacks (each 100kg!)are in the storehouse. We will wait for sprouts and then most of these will be used to plant the other fields. Emmy and Jerome will start to sell some though and of course eat some!

We have also now given out the first mosquito nets: 3 to Emmy, 3 to Jerome, 3 to Ronald and 1 for Bright.

20 Feb 2009The field of Jerome and the field of Emmy were planted with potatoes back in November. This was our first project. We have also completed construction of the storehouse at Emmy's house. Both fields are currently being harvested and put in the storehouse. We will then wait for sprouts and then use this large harvest to provide seed potatoes in the other projects.
